81.  INTRODUCTION INTO PUNCH NEEDLEPOINT

Inspired by an American antique punch needle rug from circa 1900, this workshop introduces the traditional beauty of punch needle on a miniature scale. The design features a graceful arrangement of stylized flowers, curling leaves, and a decorative central cornucopia, surrounded by a striped border in rich, warm colors.  Students will learn how to transfer the design, prepare the foundation fabric, use a miniature punch needle, control the height and direction of the loops, and work neatly around small shapes and fine details. We will also explore ways to trim, brush, and finish the pile to give the completed rug a beautifully defined appearance.  This workshop is suitable for students who are new to miniature punch needle, as well as experienced stitchers interested in adapting the technique to dollhouse scale. The finished rug will bring the warmth, character, and charm of an antique American textile to a miniature interior.  The kit includes all essential supplies, including fabric, hoop, needles, cotton and/or silk floss, easy to follow instructions, and more.  Students are advised to bring their favorite sharp scissors, additional light, and a magnifier, if needed.
